At the heart of Borderlands 4's action are the Vault Hunters: badass heroic archetypes with powerful abilities. Vault Hunters are treasure-hunting badasses, running headfirst into danger in hopes of wealth, power, glory, and the best loot in the galaxy.

Each Vault Hunter represents a unique class choice that will help determine your playstyle, though you have a lot of freedom to build them how you like. In Borderlands 4, every Vault Hunter has three powerful Action Skills to choose from: distinct, devastating abilities that you can use on a cooldown. Borderlands 4 also delivers the series' most advanced skill tree system yet, replete with branching paths to enable even more incredibly unique builds.

Yes, you can play co-op (cooperatively) as a team of Vault Hunters! Borderlands 4 is designed for co-op from the ground up, supporting up to 4 players in online parties on the same platform or cross-platform, and up to 2 players in splitscreen couch co-op on PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X|S. Whether you're hunting for loot, tackling missions, or wandering freely, level scaling and individual difficulty keeps the party together and having fun.

Yes! Players who link their free SHiFT Account to Borderlands 4 will be able to play online multiplayer across any platform of choice.

SHiFT and SHiFT Accounts are a free service integrated into Borderlands 4 and other Borderlands titles that enables players to participate in cross-platform multiplayer, as well as redeem in-game rewards by entering limited-time SHiFT codes.

SHiFT Codes are used to redeem in-game rewards such as Golden Keys, which can then be used to obtain rare loot!

SHiFT codes can be redeemed for your SHiFT Account on the Gearbox SHiFT site, or via the in-game Social menu within Borderlands 4 at launch. If you don't have a SHiFT account, you can create one on the Gearbox SHiFT site! SHiFT accounts are free. Each code may be redeemed once (1) per SHiFT account.

Yes, Borderlands 4 features offline play for all single-player activities. Some features such as online multiplayer will not be available when playing offline.

Yes! Cosmetic customizations include Vault Hunter Skins that apply a new texture or design to your outfit, while Vault Hunter Heads and Vault Hunter Bodies let you equip altered character models.

You can also collect Weapon Skins that apply a texture to any gun in your collection, and ECHO skins that change the look of your loyal ECHO-4 companion bot! You can also collect new Vehicle cosmetics to customize the look of your personalized vehicle.

All these cosmetics have no effect on gameplay beyond making you feel that much cooler.

While Borderlands 4 does include ways to customize the look of your weapons with Weapon Skins, gun behaviors and their functional components in the new Licensed Parts system will not be customizable. Borderlands is all about the loot chase, so we're keeping to our RNG roots to ensure that there's always a thrilling gun just waiting to be discovered!

Yes! By signing up for a free SHiFT Account, accepting the Terms of Service, and opting into Borderlands 4 newsletters and digital marketing, you can receive the "Hazard Pay" Weapon Skin for use in Borderlands 4 at launch.* To redeem SHiFT rewards in-game, you'll need to link your SHiFT Account to the account you use to play on your preferred platform(s). We also plan to send out more goodies via newsletters in the future, so those who stay subscribed are sure to reap additional rewards!
