A quick guide to redeeming SHiFT codes
Wondering how you can get a bunch of sweet, sweet loot? We'll be sharing SHiFT codes on the Borderlands socials throughout September, so be sure to keep an eye out. SHiFT codes can be redeemed on the Gearbox SHiFT site, or via the in-game Social menu within Borderlands games. If you don't have a SHiFT account, you can create one on the Gearbox SHiFT site! SHiFT accounts are free. Each code may be redeemed once (1) per SHiFT account.
Make sure to redeem Month of Mayhem SHiFT codes on the Gearbox SHiFT site or via the in-game Social menu within Borderlands games before they deactivate on October 31 at 11:59 PM PT. As a reminder, each code may be redeemed once (1) per SHiFT account.
A note on redeeming rewards in Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition
Please note that when redeeming SHiFT code rewards in Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, including Golden Keys and weapons, you must trigger an autosave to ensure that your rewards are retained in your inventory. You can trigger an autosave by approaching any checkpoint station, warping to any Fast Travel Station, or entering a new map. You'll know an autosave has triggered if you see a Vault icon appear in the upper left corner of the screen. Failing to trigger an autosave may result in the permanent loss of your redeemed rewards from your inventory if you exit the game.
Weekly Golden Keys
Every Friday during the Month of Mayhem, we're making it rain Golden Keys with SHiFT codes that unlock 3 Golden Keys each in Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and Borderlands 3 for a total of 12 Golden Keys each week. With five Fridays in September 2023, that's a staggering 60 Golden Keys you could add to your hoard!
Borderlands players know that Golden Keys are precious, as they're the only way to open the Golden Chest found in each game's hub area. Opening the Golden Chest grants you a random assortment of powerful gear that's always appropriate for your current character level. To use your Golden Keys, look for the Golden Chest in the following in-game locations:
- Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition: Fyrestone and New Haven
- Borderlands 2: Sanctuary
- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel: Concordia
- Borderlands 3: Sanctuary III
But wait—there's more! On September 13, we're giving away an extra four Golden Keys for Borderlands 3 to celebrate the game's fourth birthday. Then on September 18, you can score an extra 11 Golden Keys for Borderlands 2 in honor of it turning 11 years old. With so many Golden Keys at your disposal, your inventory shall runneth over with awesometh looteth.
Weekly Diamond Keys
As if that many Golden Keys wasn't enough, we're also bringing Diamond Keys to the party. These are even rarer than Golden Keys, and can only be redeemed as part of the Vault Cards feature of Borderlands 3's Director's Cut add-on content. If you're unfamiliar, be sure to check out the Borderlands 3 Vault Cards and Diamond Keys Quick Guide!
We'll be giving away a SHiFT code for a shiny Diamond Key on September 1, 8, 13, 22, and 29, for five in all. To use your Diamond Keys in Borderlands 3, visit the Diamond Armory, located beneath the Bridge on Sanctuary III's upper deck—just be ready to sift through the resulting onslaught of loot as quick as you can before the timer runs out!
If you're new to Borderlands 3 or rolling a new Vault Hunter, the power level of the gear you'll find in the Diamond Armory is going to greatly accelerate your progression. The quicker you can get to the endgame, the quicker you can start putting together the ideal gear loadout for your build.
The Month of Mayhem features some 'Greatest Hits' of coveted Legendary weapons for Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and Borderlands 3. Each weapon will roll at max level for their respective game, so they're guaranteed to pack some heavy-duty firepower. Here's the weekly cadence for the weapon drop types, which will be provided via SHiFT codes; you'll have to stay tuned to see which weapons you're getting each week!
- Week of September 4 - Legendary Shotguns
- Week of September 11 - Legendary Pistols
- Week of September 18 - Legendary Sniper Rifles
- Week of September 25 - Legendary Assault Rifles
Loot the Universe Remix
Get ready to farm Legendary loot like a fiend, because the Loot the Universe series of mini-events is coming back to Borderlands 3 for a limited time!
Each week from September 7 to October 5, two planets in Borderlands 3—one from the base game and one from add-on content—will have greatly increased drop chances for certain types of Legendary loot within specific, undisclosed locations. For example, you'll find different kinds of Legendary loot in the Meridian Metroplex versus Atlas HQ during Promethea's week of Loot the Universe.
It'll be up to the Borderlands community to collectively figure out each week's hotspots and chase after the most coveted pieces of loot. As before, each planet's affected zones have their own dedicated Legendary weapon type (Pistol, Shotgun, SMG, Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle, or Heavy), and may also have increased chances for Legendary gear types (Class Mods, Artifacts, Shields, or Grenade Mods).
Here's the schedule for which planets will be affected during which week once each week's small hotfix has been deployed:
- Week 1 (9 AM PT September 7 to 8:59 AM PT September 14) - Eden-6 and Gehenna
- Week 2 (9 AM PT September 14 to 8:59 AM PT September 21) - Promethea and The Handsome Jackpot
- Week 3 (9 AM PT September 21 to 8:59 AM PT September 28) - Pandora and Xylourgos
- Week 4 (9 AM PT September 28 to 8:59 AM PT October 5) - Nekrotafeyo and Krieg's Mind
